Hidden Wine Gem – Blue Fox Cellars

Blue Fox Cellars, Carmel Valley, CA:  As I went exploring in Carmel Valley Wine Country one day, I heard water splashing behind a heavily ivied wall so it peeked my curiosity of ,”where is that sound coming from?” As I walked along this fenced, I followed it until I came to the gated doors which were open! I saw a beautiful courtyard with Bocce Ball and cozy tables for guests. As this was a sunny day and the birds and the bees were happily buzzing around, I saw the making of an opportune time to explore this winery first hand.  Here are a few of my tasting notes:

1. Chenin Blanc 2020: This was an outstanding wine with a fun and light lemon citrus taste, with Asian pear, and a wonderful taste of honey this wine is perfect for any cheese charcutier or clam and linguini dishes!

2. Vermentino 2021: This wine also had a light taste of pear, white peach and a full mouth feel. This would be great with oysters on the half shell and prosciutto-wrapped melons.

3. Rose of Grenache 2019: This is a robust fruit forward wine with a peach and strawberry finish. I’d pair this with a grilled lamb dish.

4. Syrah 2014, (Yes it is a 2014 so you’ll have to ask about the story behind this): This was a super delightful wine. Flavors were of plum, fig, raspberry, earth, spice with an elegant tannin finish. This would be great with a beef mushroom risotto.

5. Ecip Wines is another one of their brands – Pinot Noir 2019 – I am not usually a Pinot Noir fan but this wine was fabulous: Very fruit forward with blackberry, earth, spice, and a really nice full finish.

Conclusion: Blue Fox Cellars is a must-visit while you are visiting Monterey Bay. 25 Pilot Road, Carmel Valley, CA 93924
